About Common Foods Export

The entire Common Foods JSON file includes ~41K food phrases, including aliases and colloquialisms, that are linked to one of our 11,000 unique instance of a food called the “tags” object. Founded on USDA data, this set also includes up to 90 micronutrients* per tag. Includes grocery categorization, wellness claims, and alternative measures.

Tag and Phrase Relationship

This is a One-To-Many relationship. Each tag represents a unique concept of a food item that is linked to phrases that are used to reference that food item. Each tag has multiple phrases including typos, aliases, and colloquialisms. Since our tag names are the most recognized phrasing of a food item, you can expect a phrase instance of the tag name.
