Businesses can enhance their reach, streamline operations, and deliver exceptional product experiences to customers, ultimately driving sales and differentiation in the marketplace. For more information on PIM and Syndication modules, see Overview of MDM and Syndicate.
Who Should Use XP?
The Exchange is ideal for various users such as Suppliers, Vendors, Retailers, or Brand Distributors looking to optimize their product information management and data distribution processes.
Key Features
The below illustration depicts the key features of PIM Syndication Data Exchange:
Overview
The PIM Syndication Data Exchange offers:
- Data Syndication for Brands and Distributors: Enables seamless synchronization of business data, such as entities (products, SKUs, etc.) and contexts, from PIM to Syndication. This allows brands and distributors to manage and customize their product data by recipients and publish it effectively. For more information, see Data Syndication from PIM to Syndication.
- Vendor Data Onboarding (VDO) for Retailers and Distributors: Facilitates easy onboarding and synchronization of product data from suppliers through Syndication to PIM. Retailers and distributors can use a user-friendly portal with built-in retailer-specific data quality validation, allowing them to receive the data in PIM to run their internal workflows and enrichment processes. For more information, see Data Onboarding from Syndication to PIM
Prerequisites
The following are the requirements for the optimal functioning of the Exchange:
- The PIM and Syndication modules must be deployed and configured in the respective tenants. The PIM module setup includes configuring data models according to your business needs. The Syndication module requires a basic setup to facilitate the data exchange. For more information, see External Service Desk.
- The Exchange must be deployed in the tenant.
Setup Options
After deployment, you can choose from the following two setup options to configure the Exchange:
- Legacy Exchange Setup: This is the original method of configuring the PIM-Syndication Data Exchange. Use this as reference if you have existing tenants configured with this setup. For more information, see Legacy Exchange Setup.
- Simplified Exchange Setup: This is a streamlined approach that significantly reduces manual effort compared to the legacy setup. This enhanced method improves efficiency and user experience, making it the recommended option for future deployments. For more information, see Simplified Exchange Setup.
While the Legacy Exchange Setup can be done by Customers or through a Customer/Syndigo partnership, the Simplified Exchange Setup is currently handled exclusively by Syndigo.

The Exchange Process
The PIM-Syndication Data Exchange process consists of two phases:
- Initial Setup: This phase involves configuring the Exchange to facilitate the data exchange between PIM and Syndication modules. You can use either the Legacy or the Simplified setup options. For more information, see Legacy Exchange Setup and Simplified Exchange Setup.
- Ongoing Data Management: This phase involves continuous data synchronization between PIM and Syndication modules for both setup options. For more information, see Business Use Cases.
- The Simplified Exchange Setup exclusively provides Syndigo's internal users with the ability to automatically sync data model changes from PIM to Syndication.
- The data model syncs and mappings performed during the Initial Setup phase serve as the initial load. Any subsequent updates to the data models are part of the Ongoing Data Management phase. For more information, see Data Model Sync.

The Exchange Limitations
The following are the current limitations of PIM-Syndication Data Exchange:
-
A GDSN user must use only the top level node when syndicating data. For example, you can only syndicate from the Pallet level.
-
The relationship between parent and child entities must be an owned relationship. (It's a top - down approach)
-
It is recommended to select a maximum of 20 packaging hierarchy records from UI or API for data syndication.
-
Do not use locales associated with one context in another context. For example, the Germany context is associated with German locale. Do not use this locale in the France context.
