The Packaging Hierarchy tab in PDP provides a centralized view to manage the packaging hierarchy of a trade item. Each level in a hierarchy represents the relationship between the parent and child items through the Quantity relationship attribute.
By default, a single-level hierarchy is displayed for the current trade item. When you add a parent or child trade item, the tab displays a new hierarchy associated with the highest-level GTIN.
If the trade item belongs to more than one packaging hierarchy, you can view and manage all its associated hierarchies in the same tab.
Add a parent or child trade item
You can add a parent or child trade item to create a Packaging Hierarchy for a trade item connected through a quantity of child units. You can add a parent only to the highest-level (trade item) and a child trade item to any level except for a Base Unit
For example, in the Pallet → Case → Base Unit hierarchy:
- You can add a parent to Pallet.
- You can add a child to Pallet or Case, but not to Base Unit.
To add a parent and child trade items:
-
Go to PDP > Packaging Hierarchy tab.
-
Click View Actions > Add Parent corresponding to the highest-level trade item in a hierarchy.

-
In the Add Parent - Packaging Hierarchy dialog, select a trade item.
In this scenario, a Case can have Pallet as a parent trade item.

-
Click Next.
-
Enter the quantity of child units for the newly selected parent item.
You can modify the quantity at any time from the Packaging Hierarchy grid by double-clicking the Qty column for the required trade item.

-
Click Add.
-
Similarly, to add a child trade item, click View Actions > Add Child.

-
In the Add Child - Packaging Hierarchy dialog, select a trade item.
In this scenario, a Case can have a Case, Pack, or Base Unit as a child trade item.

-
Click Next.
-
Enter the quantity of child units for the newly added child.

-
Click Add.
Remove a child trade item
You can remove a trade item of any level in the Packaging Hierarchy to remove the relationship of the selected trade item from its corresponding parent trade item.
To remove a trade item:
-
Go to PDP > Packaging Hierarchy tab.
-
Click View Actions > Remove corresponding to any child trade item in a hierarchy.
In this scenario, Case is being removed from the Pallet.

-
Click Remove.

Published Withdrawal Sent
When a temporary or permanent withdrawal is performed for a published product, all associated packaging hierarchies including pallets are also withdrawn. You can view the published withdrawal status on the product details page. For more information, see Withdraw Publication.
